This cache was placed to commemorate a
small bit of history for the former Shire of Cranbourne, and the
Lang Lang Foreshore. There is a caravan & camping park here in
which we recently spent a few days, and met some lovely people
and heard some great stories. It was only fitting that we placed
a cache in this area on New Years Day 2010
 Sunset with Caleb(right) & friend Ayva(left) This land was originally settled to assist the settlement of French Island with the Jetty being built in 1916 to service the Prison Farm Reformatory on the island. At low tide you will see vast mudflats, where there was once thick seagrass meadows and home to the King George whiting. As the time comes in, see the ghost shrimps busily clearing their tunnels, creating mini explosions of mud everywhere.  Lang Lang Foreshore  Former Lang Lang Jetty recently demolished due to lack of funding for repair/development.  After World War II, several boat houses were built, along with a Saltwater Low-Tide Swimming Pool. A local told us that with the sloping walls of the pool, it made it difficult to get out of the pool quickly and local fishermen would sometimes throw Gummy Sharks in for laughs. The pool was victim to loss of sea grass, destroying much of the area. At GZ, you will be standing at the only real bit of the swimming pool left, but you will see the depression and the boundaries of the former pool. This is a great place to bring a ball, or a fishing pole. Any other information or pictures you have of the area would be greatly appreciated. |
